BIX reached the 50 Gbit/sec aggregated traffic.
At 6th September the BIX total aggregated traffic was 50.9 Gbit/sec, and 8.2 MPacket/sec. With this traffic currently BIX is the largest Internet eXchange in the Central and East European region, and 6th in Europe.

New server for www.bix.hu Today we have installed a new Dual Intel Xeon Processor based IBM server. From now, the www.bix.hu webpage, and the on-line generated network statistic graphs displayed much faster.

ISZT BIX Node upgrades: One new CISCO Catalyst 6509 (SUP720) switch installed in the ISZT Node, so the BIX core now have two active switch. Between the core switches there is a 40Gbit/sec connection. Now the current member port capacity on the ISZT node is: 24x 10GE (XENPAK), 48x GE (SFP) and 96x FE (100BaseT) port.

The first IPv6 peering started on the BIX.
The upgrade of the route servers and the Looking Glass page finished, now it supports the IPv6. The first two IPv6 members who has IPv6 peering are the Hungarnet and the ISZT.

ISZT BIX Node upgrades: The interface card upgrades in the primary and the secondary CISCO Catalyst 6509 / SUP720 Switches finished. Now the current capacity on the ISZT node is: 18x 10GE (XENPAK), 72x GE (SFP) and 96x FE (100BaseT) port.

ISZT BIX Node upgrades: The primary and secondary Route Server upgraded to a new CISCO 7301 router. The new Route Servers supports the "A" service category, bilateral peering requirements. More information can be found in the AS5507 RIPE object.

Backup Link upgrade to 1 Gbit/sec between Matáv BIX Node and ISZT BIX Node finished.

The ISZT BIX Node CISCO 6509 Switch 16x GE upgrade finished. Current capacity is 32x GE and 48x FE ports.

The new BIX website is ready. The former static html based site was replaced with a database driven design, which includes automatic traffic graph generation and a looking glass function.

The ISZT BIX Node upgrade finished.

One new CISCO 6509 Switch installed to connect the main BIX links. Current capacity is 32Gbit/sec Backplane, 16x GE and 48x FE ports, another 16x GE ports ordered.

The old CISCO 4006 Switch is used for backup BIX links. Current capacity is 24Gbit/sec Backplane, 12x GE and 48x FE ports.

A new membership type was approved: bilateral only members can connect to the BIX for an increased monthly fee compared to the multilateral members. New rules were introduced for the BIX providers as well, the new charter will be posted shortly.

MRTG graphs corrected: new values are monitored for links with traffic greater than 100Mbps. (Unfortunatelly the Cisco 3508 switches do not support 64-bit interface counters, so we had to start new graphs with the locIfInBitsSec/locIfOutBitsSec values.)

The new BIX charter has been posted (currently only in Hungarian).
The new minimum international connectivity requirement is 256Kbps and there are port-speed based charges:
10Mbps - HUF 25,000/month, 100Mbps - HUF 50,000/month, 1Gbps - HUF 100,000/month

The new second route server at 193.188.137.1 is operational, all members are requested to set up a peering session.

The operation of the Victor Hugo BIX point was taken over by ISZT and the physical equipment will be moved to a closed, secured room. The new service contract and a letter about the change will be posted to the existing members soon.
